Philadelphia based experimental shoegaze band Knifeplay announce their new album Animal Drowning and share a new single 'Promise'. Originally a solo bedroom project from musician TJ Strohmer, over the last few years the project developed into a six piece band releasing their debut album Pearlty in 2019 and a handful of EP's and live tapes. The new record, recorded with Jeff Ziegler (Kurt Vile, The War On Drugs) is their first for Top Shelf Records, new single 'Promise' sets the tone for it to be an experimental genre-spanning affair. The track combines layered shoegaze arrangements that feel vast and expansive with soft vocals and moments if closeness and intimacy in the mix before bursting into a heavy feedback and horn flailing breakdown for its conclusion.
